What Happens During Recovery and Rehabilitation?
After the total hip replacement procedure, you are likely to stay in a hospital for a couple of days. A wedge-shaped cushion is also placed between your legs to keep you comfortable.
Physical therapy sessions usually start a few days after the operation. The purpose of physiotherapy is to ensure the new hip can work just as efficiently. You will be able to walk within days of going for these sessions, but you will require a walker, cane or crutches. The therapy sessions will continue for weeks or even months until you can use your leg well.
